This unit includes the Reanimation Unit, the Acute Pain Unit, and the preoperative assessment in the hospitalisation wards and in consultation offices, as well as the monitoring of admitted patients under the care of the Department of Anaesthesia and Reanimation.
This unit has a staff anaesthesiologist who is physically present 24 hours a day, covered as follows:
- A “runner” anaesthesiologist from 08.00 to 15.00 hours, responsible for carrying out preoperative tests in patients that were not seen at the consultation office and for the postoperative follow-up and control of patients who have undergone surgery and are admitted to the Recovery or have been returned to the ward.
- An anaesthesiologist on duty from 15.00 to 20.00 hours, responsible for performing the same duties as the “fly-in anaesthesiologist”, assisted by a resident
- A staff anaesthesiologist in the consultlation office, responsible for conducting preoperative patient assessment.
The responsibilities of the anaesthesiologist reporting to this Unit are:
• To attend the surgical patient before and after surgery, when required.
• To perform the preoperative examination both in the consultation offices and in hospitalisation wards, so as to prevent patients from arriving at the surgical area without having first been assessed or given premedication by the anaesthesiologist.
• To have the patient sign the Informed Consent Form before anaesthesia is given.
• To attend the postoperative visit of patients who have undergone surgery or have been taken back to their hospitalisation wards in order to assess their postoperative course, analgesia, and to resolve any incidences under the competence of the Department (Acute Pain Unit).
• To attend the postoperative patient at the Recovery Room.
